Join us for the Python Discovery Piscine! This 5-day introduction to Python programming will help you discover your potential for coding and new career paths!

Discovery Piscine is free, intensive, and takes place in a friendly, international environment. It’s a perfect chance to see if coding is right for you, no matter your prior experience.

When: November 17-21, 2025, every day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Where: 42 Warsaw campus, al. Solidarności 171B (SPARK office building)

To participate, you must be at least 18 years old.

From academic success to industry silence

It started in 2018, in partnership with the Perspektywy Foundation, known for its work promoting women in STEM, including the Women in Tech Summit. At the time, Siemens observed a promising trend: more women were enrolling in technical universities and choosing engineering as their field of study. But something wasn’t adding up – despite academic progress, very few of these women in engineering were entering the tech job market after graduation.

“There was a clear disconnect,” said Marta Benedyczak, involved in the project since few years. “We kept hearing about rising numbers of female students in technical fields, but we weren’t seeing them apply for jobs – not at Siemens, not at our clients’. We realized it’s not about ability. It’s about visibility, support, and a sense of belonging.”

From observation to action: Inżynierki 4.0

To address this challenge and help bridge the STEM gender gap, Siemens launched their flagship program – Inżynierki 4.0 (Women Engineers 4.0) – a concrete initiative that empowers female students and graduates to take their first confident steps into careers in robotics, automation, IT, and engineering.

Every year, over 120 women apply to participate. A jury selects 30 finalists, who are invited to Siemens’ headquarters for an intensive two-day workshop. The experience blends technical skill-building with real-world exposure: participants engage in hands-on sessions, learn directly from experts, and connect with successful female role models already working in the industry.

As Marta Benedyczak puts it, “One key way to attract more women into the tech industry is by creating and promoting strong role models who can inspire and guide others. When women see successful individuals who look like them and have overcome similar challenges, it becomes easier to imagine themselves in those roles. Role models help break stereotypes and show that a career in tech is not only possible but also rewarding.”

“Equally important is supporting young women in building networks. Networking provides access to mentorship, job opportunities, and peer support. Women’s tech communities, events, and online platforms can help create these valuable connections and reduce the feeling of isolation.”, she adds.

A win-win: for women and the industry

“We treat Siemens Inżynierki 4.0 not only as a learning opportunity, but as a launchpad – a space where women feel seen, supported, and encouraged to pursue their ambitions,” says Marta. “They study engineering. They have the talent. We just need to show them they belong – and that the tech world needs them.”

This initiative reflects Siemens’ broader commitment to diversity in tech and advancing tech career programs for women. It’s not just about skills – it’s about confidence, community, and connection. Many participants go on to start careers in tech, proving that with the right support, the “leaky pipeline” doesn’t have to leak at all.

But Siemens isn’t only investing in future employees – it’s investing in the strength of the industry itself. By expanding access and opportunity, Inżynierki 4.0 helps build a more diverse, qualified, and resilient talent pipeline – benefiting partners, clients, and the wider tech ecosystem.

Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not.

Did you know nearly half of all gamers are women – yet only about 20% of professionals in the game development are female?

This imbalance isn’t due to lack of interest or ability. The gap often begins much earlier – in schools, at the moment when young people start deciding their future education and careers. One initiative tackling this challenge head-on is a scholarship and mentoring program run by a leading Polish game development studio: CD Projekt Red. The program was created by Agnieszka Szamałek, Culture and Diversity & Inclusion Director at CD Projekt Red, who saw how important it is to support and inspire girls early on.

“Dziewczyny w grze” (EN: Girls in the Game”) engages girls at a key stage in their education, shows them concrete career opportunities, and connects them with real mentors. By doing so, it unlocks potential that might otherwise go unnoticed or dismissed too soon.

Representation and support

“When girls and young women see people like themselves creating games, coding systems, or leading tech projects, the industry becomes imaginable and attainable.” says Katarzyna Grynienko, Culture, Diversity and Inclusion Project Manager at CD Projekt RED, the well-known Polish studio game developer, editor of “The Witcher” and “Cyberpunk”, among others. “That’s why we combine mentorship with visibility: participants meet professionals, visit our Warsaw office, and see first-hand that there’s a place for them in tech. It’s not just about opening doors, it’s about showing what’s behind them” she explains.

And she adds: “The industry needs your voice and your perspective. Look for communities like Dziewczyny w grze!, where you’ll be supported, not judged.”

The program focuses on girls in grades 3 to 5 of secondary school — a pivotal stage when students decide what to study and who they want to become. Instead of assuming girls aren’t interested in tech, the organizers asked a better question: what if we simply showed them that they are needed – not just as coders, but as artists, producers, storytellers, and designers?

The response has been overwhelming. From over 3,000 applicants across more than 700 towns and cities in Poland, around 20 girls are selected each year. Each participant is matched with a mentor — someone currently working in game development, in areas such as level design, visual arts, project production, or narrative.

Sessions are held mostly online, offering over 70 hours of tailored workshops. Mentors include both women and men, reflecting the current industry landscape while building a more balanced one for the future.

Education as an inspiring journey

“In order to encourage more girls to choose tech pathways, we need education that connects creativity, curiosity, and community. Tech shouldn’t be framed only as engineering or science” suggests Katarzyna. “We need school environments where all kids – both girls and boys, are encouraged to explore how tech intersects with their interests, be it games, art, social impact, or storytelling. Hands-on learning, access to role models, and safe spaces to experiment and fail – all of these make a difference.”

The program goes far beyond technical training. For many participants, it’s the first time they truly feel seen as future professionals. Graduates often stay in touch via Discord servers they’ve created themselves, and some return to mentor the next generation.

This cycle builds more than skills: it creates belonging, confidence, and community. “The program is like a Witcher’s journey – full of inspiration, unforgettable experiences, and challenges that teach perseverance and courage,” said Anna Dyrcz, a “Girls in the Game” alumna and creator of the “Girls Mean STEM” project.

Another alumna highlighted something closely aligned with what we believe and practice at 42 Warsaw: education is first and foremost a social activity. This is especially important because learning from each other is a key skill for the future: “They showed me that game development isn’t some kind of black magic and that you can learn everything if you really want to! Everyone at CD Projekt RED was so passionate and eager to share.”

Digital roots: finding an anchor in uncertain times

Meeting people where they are

When over 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees – mostly women and children – arrived in Poland in 2022, many faced uncertain futures. Some were ready to work. Others had never worked in tech or used digital tools beyond messaging apps.

Cisco saw an opportunity to offer support based on what it does best: tech education. “But what started as a typical upskilling initiative quickly turned into something much more nuanced. What was needed wasn’t just technical education – it was digital confidence,” shared Anna Czacharowska-Rybkowska, who leads CSR and educational initiatives at Cisco.

Rather than push ahead with specialized IT training, Cisco shifted focus. The first courses weren’t about job titles – they were about empowerment through fundamentals: how to communicate online, avoid scams, understand privacy, and explore remote work.

Beyond corporate KPIs

Instead of diving straight into IT specializations, Cisco shifted focus. The program began offering instructor-led courses in basic digital literacy – taught in Ukrainian, by Ukrainian speakers – and designed to build the foundation for future learning. The topics ranged from secure communication to using productivity tools to navigating the digital job market.

This was often participants’ first experience with online education. And despite the pressures of relocation, language barriers, and caregiving duties, women engaged with remarkable energy and determination: “Over 80% of surveyed women said it was a valuable experience,” Anna noted. “It wasn’t just about the tools. It was about being seen, supported, and empowered. The shift revealed something deeper: that getting into tech isn’t about ticking off credentials – it’s about creating space to learn safely, and feeling like you belong.”

Launched in early 2023 in Rzeszów, the Start IT. Cisco4Ukraine initiative has already reached over 10,000 learners in just 18 months. That impact was made possible thanks to collaborations with NGOs, universities, and local partners. The program remains open, flexible, and inclusive – welcoming people regardless of age, education level, or whether they plan to stay in Poland or move elsewhere.

And while Cisco’s expertise is in technology, the true success of the program lies beyond metrics. It’s in helping women rebuild agency, regain direction, and see themselves as part of a digital future. “Getting into tech isn’t just about ticking off credentials,” Anna reflected. “It’s about creating space to learn safely – and feeling like you belong.”

The beauty behind the code

“A well-posed problem is half-solved.” With this quote from Henri Bergson, Laurent Uhres opened a coffee talk with our students exploring the challenges of software engineering in the age of AI.

Laurent Uhres is an interdisciplinarian with a background in software engineering, technology innovation, and the arts. Currently VP of Innovation at Webellian, he leads enterprise-level technology initiatives that bridge human insight with engineering rigor. Trained in embedded and real-time systems, Laurent brings decades of industry experience. He is also the author of Creative Convergence, a book exploring the synergies between science, design, and the humanities.

As the role of programmers shifts from simple coding to solving meaningful problems and since Laurent offers a nuanced perspective on a profession that’s often seen in a one-sided way, we asked him what it really means to be future-ready in tech.

The engineering state of mind

First, the question on everyone’s mind: Will AI replace programmers? “It depends on the task,” Laurent remarks. “AI handles simple coding and debugging well, but it still struggles with complex problems – it gets confused and can’t break them down effectively.” AI will likely support programmers by handling routine tasks, freeing humans to focus on creative, complex challenges. But using it well still requires a strong understanding of how systems work.

Does this mean we need a whole new set of skills? Not necessarily. “As a species, we’ve always engineered solutions to survive and shape our environment. Some may have forgotten this or never learned how to apply it, but it’s almost innate,” Laurent reflects.
“It’s not about becoming someone completely different. It’s about developing what I call an engineering state of mind. Whether or not you write code, this mindset will serve you in any field.”

Yet today, the “engineering” part of “software engineering” is increasingly overlooked, he sighs.“Many are skilled technicians and craftsmen, but the true challenge is translating real-world problems into code. Often, the complexity isn’t in the code itself – the real difficulty lies in understanding what to build, why it matters, and how to clearly define the problem.”

He compares this shift to the evolution of bridge-building: “Five hundred years ago, building a bridge was mainly craftsmanship. But as bridges grew larger and had to bear heavier loads, it became an engineering challenge – requiring careful planning and design before construction even begins.”

The power of collaborative learning by doing

If thoughtful engineering is the goal, what kind of learning environment helps us get there? Laurent explains: “The best way to learn is by doing. Collaborative learning like this is essential. Having someone by your side to provide immediate feedback is crucial – without it, it’s easy to get lost or misunderstand best practices.” This approach is very close to us at 42 Warsaw, where hands-on, peer-supported learning forms the core of our educational philosophy.

“There’s also the risk of knowing only one tool – when all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. A mentor or peer can introduce you to other ‘tools’ you didn’t know existed. This unknown unknown is a major trap,” he adds. “That’s why learning alongside experienced peers is key. They help you improve, think differently, and find better solutions.”

KIS.S and see the beauty behind the code

The engineering mindset also rests on guiding principles. Laurent highlights two as the most important. First: KIS.S – Keep It Simple, Stupid. Complexity is often mistaken for intelligence, but true intelligence lies in simplifying solutions and eliminating the unnecessary. He echoes Saint-Exupéry’s words: “You know something is done not when there’s more to add, but when there’s nothing left to remove.”

The second principle is harder to define, but just as essential: a sense of beauty. “Well-written code has structure, clarity, and flow,” says Laurent. “It often feels elegant without needing to be read line by line. Like a well-designed object or a compelling piece of music, beautiful code has harmony. You can sense when it’s cluttered, forced, or lacking rhythm – even if you can’t point to a single flaw.”

In the end, the most important skill may not be technical at all – it’s the ability to truly understand what another person is asking for. This requires empathy, not just logic. It’s about constantly verifying and validating your work: Have I built the right product – is it what was actually needed? Have I built the product right – is it reliable, safe, and functional?

She completed the CEMS MIM program at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and the Warsaw School of Economics.

Monika Borowiecka – Managing Partner at Tangent Line VC, a fund supporting investment activity Polish entrepreneurs. Shareholder and member of the management board of companies specializing in developing innovative technologies on the Polish market, including Triomega and KidiHub. Investment expert with broad knowledge of marketing, management and sales. Trained and passionate, a coach and mentor conducting trainings for managerial staff senior level. She has over 20 years of professional experience – gained, among others in one from the largest international corporations – Mars Polska.

Noemi Zabari (Astroteq.ai) – astrophysicist, leader, and manager of R&D projects bridging the gap between the scientific and business communities. In 2023, she was recognized as a Strong Woman in IT, and in 2024, she received the Kazimiera Bujwidowa Award and the title of Businesswoman of the Year in the Success Written with Lipstick competition in the “Leader in New Technologies” category. She completed her Ph.D. in Astrophysics at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kraków. Her specialization lies in dense nuclear matter and cosmic radiation, with practical applications for real-world challenges such as monitoring and predicting seismic activity, scanning dense matter objects, and monitoring electronic subsystems in satellite missions. Dr. Zabari is the COO of Astroteq.ai and CEO of Muotech.io, a co-leader of the cosmo-seismic research group within the CREDO project (credo.science), and a member of the Polish Space Technology Cluster. She also mentors in organizations such as F2F Mentoring and the Global Mentoring Walk by Vital Voices.

Dr Joanna Lipner Dr. (Pikralida) is a graduate of the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Polish Academy of Sciences. She has gained professional experience in drug discovery and development through her work in the R&D departments of Celon Pharma and Molecure. Since 2019, she has been collaborating with Dr. Anna Krause and Dr. Stanisław Pikul to develop Pikralida, an emerging biotech company focused on creating innovative therapies. Joanna has experience in managing R&D projects as well as in building and managing a new company.

Sława Madelska is the CEO and Founder of HUGUP, a healthtech startup revolutionising pregnancy wellness with advanced support wear, addressing the widespread yet underserved issue of lumbopelvic pain, which affects two-thirds of pregnant women. HUGUP’s vision extends beyond pregnancy, aiming to support anyone suffering from back pain—an epidemic and a leading cause of disability worldwide—including seniors, office workers, and athletes. Having navigated the digital industry’s nemeses, including Digitas UK and UNIT9, and having run her own e-commerce agency, White Ducky, she is now making her way as an entrepreneur experimenter in healthtech.

The meeting will be in English, just like the entire learning process at 42 Warsaw.

We’ll meet in our auditorium, the hub of our community gatherings. You’ll learn about our peer-to-peer methodology – what it is, why is it worth and when it works the best.
We’ll also explain the recruitment process step by step, from the logic games you can play online anytime to the Piscine, the final and most decisive stage.

Meet our students, visit the campus!

Open Day is the perfect chance to fully understand the 42 Warsaw concept. It’s also one of the rare opportunities to tour our campus – the heart of our community – before becoming a student.

You’ll see our clusters designed for collaborative work, rush rooms for individual or small group tasks, the students’ kitchen, and social spaces. You’ll see for yourself how our campus caters to the diverse needs of our students, offering a comfortable, inspiring space. It’s open 24/7, allowing everyone to tailor their learning schedule to their life. Both the campus and the entire building are accessible to individuals with mobility disabilities.
